So I am very happy and can't wait to start filming more,

I really love the graininess

my therapy...

Stop Motion

Just a stop motion I'm working on,
it's relatively new to me and this is the very beginning of it
I like the fact that with the horizontal strips across the photographs it looks like a video in rewind which is what i always think when I'm sitting on the dlr on my own going backwards!
How sad...
I am planning on collaging and drawing on top of the images to build the animation up

Anarchy....

this was what I saw of the protest, shame it turned violent but I saw none of that
it was good to see so many people united together against these ridiculous plans

Caouette & Mekas

I want to create a film that is personal and intimate to me. But also something that is everyday and real, almost like a visual diary of my life for everyone to see.
These are my inspirations.

train track cliche

our group have all recorded audio from Croydon, and this is my interpretation of Sarah's recording
this is the first image i saw in my head as soon as i heard it,
i had to do my best to make the photograph look authentic with what materials i had to hand though....

snippets of anonymous peoples lives on the bus

you can't talk to him like that
how you reacted is wrong
I showed you the wrong ticket and then i came back to show you the right one
i was in a hurry
he pushed me, he had such an attitude
sometimes i feel like im going to fall on my bum
oops, sorry
look, look, look
they have changed it so much, its nice in a way
thank you
I've not had one, honestly i haven't
is it, i quite liked it
why are you being a fucking prick to me?
sorry
can i bring a dog on, just till the roundabout
he has big issues
they used to be really protective
have you watched the real world?
i needed to stay there tonight
milling around in croydon a little bit
pay your gas, pay your electric
i left my purse in my locker
its not easy
i'll take you there for free
its a rave
its your fault for having a posh pram
you should get a cab

a fake reality

my reconstructed image.

all the parts of the image are photographs of real objects, yet mixed all together it makes a fake reality that i have created.

i will use the darkroom to enlarge and invert the image and see how real it really looks.

i am also going to try drawing over the top of the acetate in an obscure way.

can i get away with it looking like reality?

reconstruction

i like the spontaneity of walking the streets with a camera not overthinking the composition or the context of which the image was taken etc. It is only after you get home and take a closer inspection you find aspects inside the photograph that are interesting.
by reconstructing the photographs i will be creating my own made up scene.
it will no longer be spontaneous but staged.

the battle of lewisham

london life

lewisham high street

silvy photographed every aspect of london life including theatre, fashion and the winding streets. he also captured people from all waves of life - from royalty and aristocrats to uncelebrated people such as children and servants. i want to do the same for lewisham where i have recently moved to, not only as a direction for my work but to get familiar with the area my self and learn about what it was and what it has become.

camille silvy... photoshop layers by hand

Silvy is a man who used victoriana photography to create striking images that portray everyday beauty. He was inspired - as am i -by french romantic poets such as Baudelaire and Rimbaud. His images were almost a visual representation of the same ideas.

I recently discovered that he would use seperate negatives layered together to make one image, similar to how the software photoshop works. I like the idea that what people see in a photograph they assume is real but by using seperate exposures and layering them up, you can create a fictional image.

vampires and why they bite

"The vampire myth is one rooted in the fears of society. The Victorian origin of Dracula was born of the threat of outsiders and female sexual liberation compounded with the fear of the plague. With Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire, vamps now had a voice – they became more human. Of course these days, vampires have stepped out of the shadows to become brooding romantic anti-heroes. But ultimately, modern vampirism represents freedom from the one fear we can never escape – that of death. And as that fear is probably never going to go away, it seems that vampirism is here for good too."

orgone energy

i am interested in objects and machinery that are useless or unworkable. theres something poetic about an object that has been invented and worked on for years with passion, but has no proven physical use. the orgone accumulator is a perfect example. the fact that one man has given his life away to this one imaginative thing fascinates me

a door that never fully shuts, never fully opens

a fascination with doors, and how symbolic a door is whether it is closed or open.

how in a film, the sound of a door clicking to be locked or unlocked changes the whole scene and atmosphere, it can create a feeling of both imprisonment or freedom.

this photograph shows a door which if you shut one side, it will be open the other and vice-versa. your feelings towards it are unbalanced which makes it frustrating and uncomfortable to view.

plays with your mind!

51 freed after drawbridge collapses at castle

reading the news story there was something archaic and fairytale-like about the wording and the whole situation. it included words such as
"freed after being trapped"
"The custodian kept those stranded entertained with sword-fighting"
i found this really exciting until i watched the video which accompanied it, which just made it seem very ordinary and mundane!
